This past July I had the pleasure of covering my first destination wedding for one great amazing couple! Selene & Philip! I should start off by saying that not only was I speechless when they described they're wedding day to me but HONORED to have been selected as the photographer to cover their special day at one of Mexicos finest resorts, XCARET in Riviera Maya, Mexico!
Their wedding was scheduled for a Monday and so we flew out on a Sunday. By we I mean my wife Bel and I. Yes she tagged along for our trip courtesy of the Bride and Groom and she was a HUGE help for me throughout the entire wedding day.
Upon arrival you can imagine I was curious to hunt for amazing light and spots where I would be photographing the couple along with the wedding party. I scoured the resort in search of majestic spots where I would photograph the brides dress, wedding shoes and other details. I instantly developed a lengthy list in my brain which I would later use to my advantage. *evil laugh*
After a day of searching for great light it was time for a margarita and back to my room, where I would prepare camera equipment and not sleep the entire night due to the excitement. The next morning I jumped out of bed like a kid on Christmas morning and continued my search for places just incase I had missed something. Needless to say I probably walked the entire resort three times before saying to myself, "Ok I think I'm done."
I took a relaxing dip in the pool and waited for show time! Once 2pm rolled around the wedding day coverage began! The alter was perfectly located right beside a Mayan Ruin which looked like something out of a book! Crystal blue waters, countless iguanas, sounds of the waves and the warm caribbean sun along with Selene & Philip made this day unforgettable!
Camera in hand I snapped away for at least ten hours before the day ended and my legs fell off lol! At that point I made my way back to my room slithering along the sand like a big fat lazy iguana full of camera gear and a drenched Hawaiian shirt. And if you ask me...I would do it ALL over again in a heart beat! I mean who wouldn't right?
Anywho, enjoy this small wedding day story as seen through my eyes. Cheers to all on this amazing FRIDAY!!!
Till next time.
